[ARCHIVED] Silent Service Honoree - Officer Karen Webster

An area teacher recently wrote to the Police Chief to commend and thank Officer Karen Webster for her recent voluntary service. She explained that Officer Webster on short notice was able to assist with translation of Farsi for a kindergartener. Officer Webster had extensive practice with the language as a Cryptologic Technician Interpreter and Persian Farsi Linguist in the Navy. The teacher explained, “Officer Webster, despite having been somewhat out of practice, offered to both translate the screening questions in print and aid in communication at the meeting. She then exceeded our request by contacting a former military colleague, who agreed to be available on the phone to assist, if needed. She corresponded with me during her days off and was incredibly flexible despite scheduling conflicts and work duties. The school faculty and family were so grateful to have Officer Webster's expertise and presence, and I'm sure were pleased to be reminded that a police officer's job includes going above and beyond to assist citizens in numerous ways, even during days off.  Coincidentally, my eighth-grade students were reading a book about a Korean student learning English, so I welcomed her to teach our class some Farsi as a learning connection. Officer Webster's presence was undoubtedly the highlight of many students' day, and especially impactful for a particular student interested in following a similar military and career path. We are blessed to have Officer Webster at Kalispell Police Department and as a community citizen because of her exceptional service and knowledge.”
