If you are currently seeking a rental property, please be aware that the Kalispell Police Department is hearing an influx of scamming activity related to bogus rental housing. These scammers are listing rentals online at classified advertisement websites such as Craigslist and asking for electronic payment transfers through apps such as Venmo or PayPal. These scams can appear legitimate by listing existing properties, and emailing rental agreements.
Please do not fall victim to these types of scams! If you are interested in a rental, ask to meet the person face to face. If they refuse, or do not refer you to a local rental agency or property management company, they may be a scam. If you meet face to face, and still want to use a payment transfer application, be sure to write down a license plate, and description of the person, and vehicle. You can also look up property owner information at Flathead GIS or Montana Cadastral. Seeking out rental agencies and property management companies yourself and visiting them in their office when you are seeking a rental is also another good option.
