[ARCHIVED] Help Fight Crime by Registering Your Security Camera

In February, 2020, the Kalispell Police Department began partnering with businesses and homeowners in the Kalispell area to participate in a camera registration project. This program allows homeowners and businesses to register their external security cameras on a voluntary basis. The program aids in investigating cases in the event of a crime near a residence or business. The police department contacts the system owner to see if their cameras recorded events relative to the investigation.  The cameras are still legally protected and not accessible to law enforcement without the owner’s consent or a legal process.

Since it's inception, the camera registration program has assisted in identifying suspects in multiple cases, narrowing investigation time and tracking suspects movements throughout town. We value our partnerships with the Kalispell community.  The mapping initiative is another opportunity to partner together to address public safety in the Kalispell Area.

Members of the Kalispell Police Department do not have the availability to remotely access or control a system through the registry.  The system is simply a registration program that allows a quick synopsis of cameras in the area a crime was committed. The registry saves investigative time and efficiency, allowing for a more responsive police investigation.   The registration service works through a secured access point only available to law enforcement.
