The most recent Water Facility Plan update identified the Four Mile Drive Project as the top priority for the water system which will: provide redundancy, reduce pressure fluctuations, increase fire flows, decrease tank turnover times inside Sheepherder Tank, increase the firm capacities, and increase the water storage during peak demands of the summer and fall which occur due to irrigation.
The project consists of installing approximately 14,300 feet of 18-inch PVC water main, 800 feet of 24-inch HDPE main (directionally drilled), seven new fire hydrants and all associated valves, fittings and surface repair. The proposed water transmission main installation work will occur along Three Mile Drive from Heavens Peak Drive to West Springcreek Road, North on West Springcreek Road and Farm to Market Road to Four Mile Drive, east on Four Mile Drive to Stillwater Road and north on Stillwater Road for approximately one-half mile. All of the project work will occur within existing City streets and right-of-ways. Construction is estimated to occur in the fall of 2019 or spring of 2020. The Montana Department of Environmental Quality has reviewed this project and concluded that it meets the Categorical Exclusion criteria for the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the Montana Environmental Policy Act (MEPA). The Categorical Exclusion may be revoked if the project is not initiated within the time period specified in the planning documents, a new or modified application is submitted, new evidence demonstrates serious local or environmental issues exist, or state, local, tribal, or federal laws are violated.
