A. GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City water, sewer, street, storm drainage facilities and systems and Solid Waste.
B. SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general supervision of Street Dept. Working Foreman.
C. SUPERVISION EXERCISED
None generally. May serve as a lead worker over lower level maintenance workers.
D. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
a. Assists with construction and maintenance activities to provide street and alley systems for the city.
b. Determines the locations of gas, telephone, power, television, water and sewer lines from the appropriate sources when necessary.
c. Responds to complaints regarding Solid Waste, street, water and sewer systems; evaluates situation; explains findings to supervisor.
d. Insures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use.
e. Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, gravel, sand, asphalt and Solid Waste.
f. Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment.
g. Operates light and medium-sized construction and power equipment, such as mechanized broom, backhoe/loader, grader, roller, sidearm refuse truck, plate compactor, saws, pumps, compressors, truck sanders, generators, plow trucks, common hand and power tools, Shovels wrenches, detection devices, mobile radio, and phone.
h. Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
i. Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying and backfilling. Alley Cleanup and Solid Waste container assembly.
j. Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment used in the water, sewer, traffic signs and signals, Solid Waste, as well as the parks department.
k. Other duties as assigned.

E. PERIPHERAL DUTIES
Serves on various crews as assigned including water, sewer, street, solid waste, wastewater, traffic signals or parks.
F. DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education and Experience) a. Graduation from high school education or GED equivalent, and
b. Eight (8) years proven experience in Street/Road Operations and Maintenance including, but not limited: to operation of large commercial vehicles including dump and solid waste trucks, backhoes, front-end loaders, graders, asphalt pavers and paving, large snow plowing equipment or,
c. Experience in water and sewer system installation and repair or,
d. any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
a. Considerable knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction repair activities and solid waste handling;
b. Skill in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment.
c. Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; Ability to work safely; Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public; Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
G. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Valid State Montana Commercial Driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.

a. Assists in administering criminal proceedings and docketing. Prepares correspondence and maintains records according to adopted court procedures.
b. Responsible for scanning and properly filing court documents according to State of Montana document retention schedule.
c. Processes deferrals, jail sentences, and failures to comply with court orders.
d. Assists in the coordination of court matters with defendants, defense counsel, city prosecutor, police department, detention center, alcohol counseling agencies and other levels of the criminal justice administration system.
e. Receipts, deposits and accounts for monies for fines, forfeitures, and reimbursements.
f. Prepares reports for Department of Motor Vehicles in Helena which maintains all records pertaining to an individual’s driving history.
g. Receives, logs and indexes incoming citations on a daily basis.
h. Responds to counter, telephone, and written inquiries regarding court records.
i. Initiates related paperwork as needed by defendants to facilitate their response to a citation or complaint. Constructs new case files, filing and retrieving documents as necessary. Prepares and maintains court calendar in coordination with Court Administrator.
j. Prepares files for court use; processes timely notices to defendants for arraignments, trials and hearings.
k. Responds to requests from Municipal Court Judge, Court Administrator, City Prosecutor, Police Department, Probation and Parole, and others for assistance and information
l. Position requires substantial contact with the public and fellow employees and sometimes involves communications of complex and/or unpleasant information, requiring the ability to remain tactful, patient, pleasant, courteous, and tolerant under stressful situations. a. Must hold a current National Registry and State of Montana EMT-B (Basic) certification at the time of hire.

c. Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid Montana State driver's license and the applicant’s driving history will be taken into consideration. d. No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven years.
e. Must be a U.S. citizen.
