The City of Kalispell and the Flathead Valley are recipients of numerous state and nationwide acknowledgments and awards.  Kalispell, MT was recognized as one of the 25 Best Places to Retire in 2012 by CNN Money, a service of CNN, Fortune & Money.  In a December 2012 article by NerdWallet Finance, Kalispell was listed as one of the top 10 towns for young families in Montana. Author, Mike Anderson cited that this study chooses a community based on its public school system, its affordability, and its growth and prosperity, among other factors. The second annual Dragon Boat Festival, held at Flathead Lake in September 2013, was awarded the title of Montana Tourism Event of the Year for 2013.

Kalispell's vibrant business climate earned the city a # 10 ranking in American City Business Journal's 2005 study of best small markets (under 100,000 population) for small businesses.

The State of Montana scored #1 for "best Business Climate" in the 2007 Business Facilities magazine Rankings Report (2007).
